RENASANT BIO
About the start-up
Renasant Bio is a pre-clinical venture backed biotech company focused on developing therapies for rare genetic kidney diseases. We are using a small molecule-based approach to correct defects in proteins that cause disease. We have identified several small molecules selected using a phenotypic high throughput screen and we are in the process of validating that these targets using our disease relevant discovery platform. Our mission is to develop therapies and leave a positive mark on the lives of patients suffering from rare genetic kidney disease.

Project Title
CELLULAR TOOL DEVELOPMENT FOR GENETIC KIDNEY DISEASE THERAPIES
Project summary
The intern will support efforts to develop cellular tools that will be used to validate small molecules as potential therapies for genetic kidney disease. The intern will learn cell biological and biochemical techniques to help validate small molecules and how they impact cellular phenotypes. Duties will include asceptic tissue culture techniques including establishing stable cell lines, plate reader assays (flourescent and luminescence) and high content imaging/fluorescent microscopy. The individual will also have the opportunity to learn how to use programming tools such as Python and R to develop anlaysis pipelines to assess data. These efforts will contribute to moving our programs towards development candidate nomination in 2025. In addition to working with the project mentor, the intern will work directly with an exprienced scientist and participate in weekly research meetings with the whole team. They will get first hand experience of working in an early stage biotech startup that is developing therapies for kidney disease.
RESponsibility
The candidate will spend a lot of their time in the wet lab with some data analysis. They will support the ongoing projects by performing experiments and generating data to drive towards making data-based decisions. They will work in mammalian cell culture using 2D in vitro assays to validate small molecules.
About the candidate
We are seeking individuals that have some wet lab experience with some core molecular and cell biology techniques. Previous experience in mammalian tissue culture is a plus. Working knowledge of handling mammalian cells in culture. Individuals that want to learn the early stages of drug discovery, that has a degree or working towards a degree in biology, physiology, translational medicine, genetics or bioengineering.
We’re looking for teammates who relish the challenge and are compelled to leave a positive mark on the lives of the patients we serve alike. If embracing creativity and candor, thriving on challenges, and empowering your teammates to succeed excites and inspires you, join us as we champion hope and work to advance our aspiration to find therapies for cystic kidney disease.
PLUSSES:
In addition to wet lab experience some experience in data analysis using python or R would be an advantage.
