MelioLabs, Inc.
About the start-up
Melio is developing a direct-from-blood diagnostic to detect hundreds of pathogens at once with a single quick test. Our patented innovation sits at the intersection of single-cell analysis and ultra-high-resolution melting and enables our first-of-its-kind diagnostic that can deploy new pathogen detection capabilities with simple software updates. This means our product can respond to new pathogens without needing to manufacture and distribute new reagents across healthcare settings and borders. Our initial product targets all common bacterial and fungal infections in the first few days of life, which will transform the way we treat almost 10% of all newborns and eliminate 99% of unnecessary antibiotic use at birth.
Project Title
Methods to predict and validate sequence discriminating power by Melio’s proprietary MeltRead Technology
Position/Project summary
You will carry out the development and expansion of Melio’s proprietary database of pathogen sequences and ultra-high-resolution melting curves across hundreds of pathogen species. In this project, you will apply sequence data analysis methods for in-silico analysis of pathogen DNA sequence via melting analysis and correlate in-silico results via routine molecular biology wetlab techniques. Through this process, you will utilize existing bioinformatics toolkits and also develop new methods to deliver a test and validation pipeline and evaluate assay components to enhance the breadth and resolution of the identification of pathogen species.
