Switch Bioworks

About the start-up

Switch Bioworks is a biotechnology startup, founded in March 2022 with the goal of providing sustainable solutions to agricultural bottlenecks through the use of synthetic biology. Switch genetically reprograms naturally occurring, symbiotic microbes with a next-generation mechanism that turns them into fertilizer-producing mini-factories directly at the root of plants. No toxic gas emissions, no pollution, no runoff, no poison. Switch has assembled a team of 12 scientists with diverse experience in synthetic biology, genome editing and directed evolution, metabolic/protein engineering, evolutionary biology, assay development, soil/plant microbial ecology, host colonization, and the impacts of abiotic stress on the microbiome. As such, the team at Switch is well-positioned to make meaningful impacts in the biofertilizer space.
