IndieBio
About the Vc
We are not a startup! We are investors. SOSV’s IndieBio is the premier biotech startup program in the world, started in 2015 when the SOSV fund expanded into different deep tech investment offerings. IndieBio is the first investor in cultivated meats, and well as the “first check in” in many top biotech and climate tech companies, including NotCo, UPSIDE Foods, Geltor, and Prolific Machines. SOSV is the most active climate tech investor in the world at their stage, feeding investments to nearly all the major institutional investors in climate tech.
The Opportunity
The project will be similar to being a venture capitalist. Using your technical background, you will be given responsibilities to do technical due diligence on very early stage companies (or ideas that have not even become companies yet). You will write and make persuasive decks on promising ideas and why they will become great companies. These decisions will be taken seriously by our entire team, including three general partners, as they will inform who will be entering our next cycle of companies. You will also have the opportunity to network in San Francisco and join different events to meet founders and other investors.
You will be working with Westley Dang, the Principal at SOSV and Program Director at IndieBio.
Primary responsibilities
Go through our applications and identify good ideas and startups.
Find new startups online or and set up new touchpoints in other academic networks.
Give monthly presentation (short, 30 min) on summary of new companies, new trends in the market, etc.
Keep up with Slack discussions on startup diligence.
Market analysis and market mapping of different technologies.
About you
Any technical background in a “wet” biological field, computational less preferred.
Candidates should be opinionated to excel in this position. Must show willingness to learn NEW topics and areas OUTSIDE of their field, because we have a wide breadth of investments. Writing and presentation skills a must.
Pluses
Should be unafraid to ask questions, and hungry to make a difference in the world. Must also be personable, as they will be representing IndieBio at networking events.
